ASSISTANT FARM MANAGER

Institution: Kuwala Christian Girls School

Reports to: Farm Manager / School Management

  1. Purpose of the Role

To support the Farm Manager in the day-to-day management of the school farm, including farm operations, accurate data recording, farm stores management, resource control, production monitoring, and reporting.

2. Key Responsibilities

  1. Farm Operations
  • Assist in planning and coordinating daily farm activities.
  • Supervise farm workers and casual labourers as assigned.
  • Support crop production, livestock management, poultry and other farm projects.
  • Monitor farm activities to ensure they are carried out according to approved plans.
  • Assist with planting, weeding, harvesting, feeding, storage, and other agricultural activities.

    2. Farm Data and Records

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of farm activities.
  • Record crop production, livestock numbers, poultry production, feed usage, harvests, sales, and other relevant farm data.
  • Maintain daily, weekly, and monthly farm records as required.
  • Collect and organise data to support farm planning and decision-making.
  • Prepare regular reports and updates for the Farm Manager.
  • Ensure that farm records are accurate, complete, and properly filed.

     3. Farm Stores and Stock Management

  • Manage and maintain the farm stores in an organised and secure manner.
  • Receive, inspect, record, and safely store farm supplies and materials.
  • Maintain accurate stock records and stock cards.
  • Record all issues and receipts of farm inputs and materials.
  • Monitor stock levels and report shortages or items requiring replenishment.
  • Ensure proper storage of seeds, animal feed, fertilisers, chemicals, tools, equipment, and other farm materials.
  • Conduct regular stock checks and report discrepancies.
  • Help prevent wastage, loss, damage, or unauthorised use of farm resources.

   4.Farm Equipment and Resources

  • Ensure proper use and care of farm tools, machinery, equipment, and materials.
  • Monitor the condition of farm equipment and report faults or damage.
  • Assist with maintenance and servicing arrangements where required.
  • Ensure farm resources are used efficiently and responsibly.

   5.Health, Safety and Environment

  • Promote safe working practices on the farm.
  • Ensure proper handling and storage of agricultural chemicals and other hazardous materials.
  • Promote good hygiene and biosecurity practices.
  • Support environmentally responsible and sustainable farming practices.

    6.General Responsibilities

  • Support school sustainability initiatives such as composting, biogas, and other agricultural projects.
  • Work collaboratively with the Farm Manager, farm workers, teachers, and students where appropriate.
  • Perform other duties related to farm operations as assigned by school management.

   7.Qualifications and Experience

  • Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Animal Science, Agribusiness, or a related field is preferred.
  • Practical experience in crop or livestock production.
  • Experience in farm records, stock management, or stores management is an advantage.
  • Experience supervising farm workers is an advantage.
  • Experience working in a school or institutional farm is an added advantage.

   8.Skills and Competencies

  • Good agricultural and practical skills.
  • Strong record-keeping and data management skills.
  • Good stock and stores management skills.
  • Basic computer skills, particularly Microsoft Excel or similar spreadsheet applications.
  • Good organisational and reporting skills.
  • Ability to supervise and work with farm workers.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Strong integrity, reliability, and accountability.
