HEAD SECURITY GUARD

Institution: Kuwala Christian Girls School

Reports to: School Administration / Operations Manager

1. Purpose of the Role

The Head Security Guard is responsible for leading and coordinating all security operations within the school to

ensure the safety of students, staff, visitors, and school property.

The role requires strong leadership, integrity, professionalism, and the ability to manage the security team

fairly and calmly, while maintaining clear communication with school administration.

2. Key Responsibilities

2.1 Leadership and Supervision

The Head Security Guard will:

  • Lead and supervise all security guards on duty.
  • Prepare and manage duty rosters to ensure adequate security coverage.
  • Promote teamwork, discipline, and cooperation within the security team.
  • Ensure all guards understand and follow school security procedures.
  • Provide guidance and support to security staff in handling security situations.

2.2 Security Operations

The Head Guard will oversee daily security operations by:

  • Ensuring that all entry and exit points are properly monitored.
  • Supervising regular patrols of the school compound during day and night.
  • Ensuring proper visitor management procedures are followed.
  • Monitoring security around key areas such as hostels, classrooms, and school perimeter.

2.3 Incident Management and Reporting

The Head Security Guard must:

  • Respond promptly to security incidents.
  • Conduct preliminary investigation of incidents when necessary.
  • Prepare clear written reports of security incidents.
  • Maintain accurate security records including:

o Incident reports

o Visitor registers

o Patrol logs

Communicate important security matters to school administration in a timely manner.

2.4 Communication and Coordination

The Head Guard must:

  • Communicate effectively with school leadership and staff.
  • Provide clear instructions to security guards during shifts.
  • Conduct regular security briefings with guards.
  • Ensure important information is shared clearly among team members.

Good spoken and written communication in English is required for reporting and coordination purposes.

2.5 Fair and Professional Leadership

The Head Security Guard must demonstrate:

  • Fairness in assigning duties and responsibilities.
  • Equal treatment of all guards without favouritism.
  • The ability to handle conflicts or disciplinary matters calmly and professionally.
  • Leadership that builds trust, cooperation, and unity within the security team.

2.6 Management of Security Equipment

The Head Guard will:

  • Maintain an inventory of all security equipment.
  • Ensure guards properly use and return all security materials.
  • Monitor items such as:

o Torches

o Batteries

o Radios

o Keys

o Security registers

  • Report any loss, damage, or misuse of equipment.

2.7 Student Protection and Safeguarding

The Head Security Guard must ensure that:

  • Security personnel maintain professional boundaries with students.
  • Sensitive areas such as hostels are monitored appropriately.
  • Security staff follow safeguarding policies at all times.

3. Professional Conduct

The Head Security Guard is expected to demonstrate:

  • Integrity and honesty in all duties.
  • Emotional maturity and calm decision-making under pressure.
  • Respectful communication with staff and colleagues.
  • The ability to resolve issues without aggression or confrontation.
  • Commitment to the Christian values of the school.

4. Qualifications and Requirements

  • Minimum qualification: Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE).
  • Ability to read and write clear reports in English.
  • Proven experience in security work.
  • Previous experience supervising a team is an advantage.
  • Strong leadership and organisational skills.
